Experience Forró?  Our  Forró in LA Monthly Dance Event is the hottest spot to be for non-stop Forró dancing! We love that the Forró community is growing and warmly supporting Forró in Los Angeles.  The sensual partner dance and music are originally from the Northeast of Brazil but have spread throughout the country, and in the last few years  have also become very popular in many cities around the globe.

This month we have live music by Môforró – our only Forró band in Los Angeles – bringing their great musicians with the zabumba (big drum), triangle and other instruments, joined by “Gee” Rabe, LA’s Accordion Diva, gracing us with the melodic sounds and the deep roots of xote, xaxado and baião rhythms!

Forró in LA house Selectors Reyes and Yukicito will be spinning before and after the live sets, so expect some great mixes from the more classical to the more contemporary Forró music!  Andrea & Fabio – our Forró instructors in Los Angeles – will do the “Forró 101” demo-class showing and teaching the steps making sure no one is left behind … and everybody dances!

Available for the evening the delights of UbatubaAçai with their bowls of goodness and their oven baked empanadas.  All going down at Tropico with it’s creative and inspiring athsmosphere. Bring a friend and dance Forró the night away!

WHAT      FORRÓ in L.A. monthly event with live music by Môforró
WHEN      Friday, October 21  at 9 PM – 2 AM $10/door
WHERE    Tropico de Nopal Gallery Art-Space
1665 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles, California 90026

Come in a costume, or not, and dance Forró all night, meet new people and have a blast! This month we are having Môforró band playing two live sets with accordion, violin, triangle, zabumba, and probably a few other instruments to bring the floor into a – as they describe – “triangle-driven, hip-swivelin Forró” fun.  This is the only  band in LA that plays Forró with a magnificent and seasoned cast of Forró-lover musicians and singers sharing the catchy tunes of Forró old and new.

The evening continues with Reyes playing his 100% Forró Selections from the most typical and well known to the most contemporary Forró bands and singers, and LA Forró dance teachers Andrea and Fabio showing and teaching Forró Intro Steps to get everyone going. Caipirinhas, Ubatuba Açai bowls, empanadas and more.  It is always a high-energy-fun time meeting friends or making new ones.

Forró is dance and music with many rhythmic styles (xote, xaxado, baião among some) originally from the Northeast of Brazil but now worldly, as it traveled from the North to the South of the country, and in the last few years has spread around the globe.

Led by Andrea Lopasso and Fabio Santana who teach Forró every Tuesday @ Tropico de Nopal Gallery-Art Space (7:30pm-9pm) they have joined forces with Marialice Jacob and Reyes Rodriguez to also organize events with live and dj music  and promote the Forró culture in Los Angeles.

Forró is both a contagious dance and music with many rhythmic styles originally from the Northeast of Brazil but now worldly, as it traveled from the North to the South of the country, and in the last few years spread around the globe.

Looking to create a Forró community in Los Angeles, Forró in LA was started over three years ago by Andrea Lopasso, Fabio Santana, and later joined by Marialice Jacob and Reyes Rodriguez in collaboration with Tropico de Nopal Gallery-Art Space as a cultural group to teach the Forró dance and promote Forró events in Los Angeles.  Music groups such as Môforró and Pé de Forró, along with musicians such as Quetzal Guerrero, and dj-ist-selectors Reyes and Yukicito from the world music LA scene, have contributed and participated since the beginning helping to grow the Forró community in this multi-cultural setting that is Los Angeles.  visual link  forroinla.com
